Andy Pedley

Andy is a highly experienced guide with many years of guiding experience and has been involved in the Tourism industry for over 20 years. He has a passion for the outdoors and adventures especially in the Fiordland region.

Andy is the previous owner of Adventure Walks from 2009 to 2017 and is now enjoying being a Senior Guide. He has also worked as a White Water River Guide for 10 years, a Dive Master and previously owned Serious Fun River Surfing in Queenstown for 5 years.

Andy was previously a Bush Instructor for the Mountain Safety Council in Queenstown and is part of Search and Rescue.

Search and Rescue
Andy has been heavily involved as a member of New Zealand’s Land Search And Rescue (NZLANDSAR). He helped orchestrate a team for Magnus International Search and Rescue which searched for 5 weeks for a lost tramper Liat Okin on the Routeburn. Also was part of the 4 man team under Dave Krahick that found Irina Yun on the Dart which the team received a National award presented in Parliament.

Andy’s greatest reward was helping during the Christchurch Earthquake Disaster as part of a private Search and Rescue Team helping to find 284 foreign nationals
reported missing. Within 3 days all had been accounted for.

He is an active Member of the New Zealand Deer Stalker Association and is currently the Wakatipu Branch’s Hunting Co-ordinater. He also has one of only 10 of Fiordland’s Department of Conservation deer indicator pest control dogs and over the last 10 years has spent nearly a month every April hunting some of Fiordland’s most remote areas and been on several Department of Conservation Thar Culls.

Andy loves taking people out to experience the great outdoors whether it’s for a day hike, heli hike, overnight hike, a bush craft course or a survivor course.

Qualifications:

Bsc Honors Degree in Biology and Environmental Science
National Certificate in Outdoor Recreation (Instruction) Tramping
Outdoor Recreation – Level 5 (Instruct in multi-night on-track tramping, Instruct in river crossing and Manage risk for an outdoor recreation activity)
Emergency Services – Level 3 (Provide basic pre-hospital emergency care)
Health Studies – Level 3 (Manage first aid in emergency situations)
