Guided Heli HikesWe have something for everyone - Helihikes for all abilities
What is included in a heli hike?
We offer heli hikes to see some of the best scenery in the South Island of New Zealand. We get off the beaten path and go where the average tourist can’t go. Flying in via helicopter means we land in some stunning wilderness areas and have the place to ourselves, but you have the added security of an experienced guide that is qualified and knows the area well.
Prices include fully guided trip and helicopter costs, lunch and snacks also included and transfers from your hotel. We have some trips departing departing Te Anau or Manapouri although if you are staying in Queenstown, transfers can be arranged at a small additional charge.
Each trip takes into account the expectations of the clients. We have longer walks for those with experience and short hikes for those limited on time or not used to bush walks.
We also offer custom guided walks – prices on application depending on group size – just enquire for more details

Text: Fly from Queenstown through the Moonlight saddle over the Richardson Mountains to Mt Earnslaw. We will fly past the epic blue ice of the hanging glacier before descending to land on the valley floor, over 1000-metres below. We will then begin our 1 hour hiking adventure in this magical location amongst the waterfalls and dramatic hanging glacier. If you are a Tolkien fan, then you will be keen to walk in the footsteps of Bilbo on the unexpected journey.
Enjoy a scenic drive to Glenorchy which was recently voted by Lonely Planet as “one of the most beautiful drives in the world” and from there we will board the helicopter to Martins Bay.
We then take a leisurely 1 hour hike along the coast line, hopefully we encounter the Fiordland crested penguin (often seen from July to November) and visit a New Zealand fur seal colony. Once back in Glenorchy, enjoy either morning or afternoon tea by the lake before returning to Queenstown.
Your adventure begins with a stunning flight high above Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu before we land on the remarkables themselves. From here you can literally see across Fiordland and as far as Mount Aspiring and Mount Cook on a clear day.
Lake Alta is a glacier lake tucked up in the mountain range and hidden under snow during most winters. We then hike over to Lake Alta and the basin surrounding it, taking in the views. The ridge line offers the perfect photo opportunity with spectacular views across the valley.
Departing from Queenstown, Manapouri or Te Anau, we helicopter from Te Anau high over Lake Manapouri and have views out over the Fiordland National Park including the famous Kepler Track and the Milford Track beyond.
This area is hard to access without a helicopter (or boat) so it is really rare to see another person in the area. The forest is temperate rainforest and stunningly green and lush. We stop for lunch on the beach by Lake Manapouri before heading into a unique and beautiful part of the Fiordland National Park where deer and birdlife can be seen.
Imagine a scenic helicopter flight over spectacular Queenstown, with mountain and lake views to amaze you. Your experienced pilot will soar above the world famous Shotover River, with jaw dropping aerial views into the Queenstown high country landing below Mt Aurum (Mt Gold).
Here we explore on foot, visiting historic mountain huts, and Dynamo Flat, New Zealand’s first hydro electric power scheme built in the pursuit of gold.We then take a leisurely 2.-3 hour guided walk and your knowledgeable guide will share stories of the early families and pioneers that forged a living from this dramatic landscape.
Want to do walk somewhere different not included on the website? We can arrange custom hikes according to your time frame and budget. From a half day trip to a 2 week trip to the remote and stunning back country of New Zealand
